The book of Malachi is placed as the last book of the Prophets section, which also makes it the last book in the Old Testament in English Bibles. The Hebrew word Malachi simply means “My [that is, God’s] messenger.”.

Malachi was a prophet of God sent to the Jews who had resettled in Judea and to all Israel in general, depicted as “the sons of Jacob” (Malachi ).

The book of Malachi closes with God's promise to send Elijah, the Old Testament's mightiest prophet. Indeed, years later at the beginning of the New Testament, John the Baptist arrived near Jerusalem, dressed like Elijah and preaching the same message of repentance.

The Malachi Promise book   Answer: Malachi begins with the promise of a future messenger important in the plan of God: “‘See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,’ says the LORD Almighty.”.

Covenant Broken God admonishes the men who married foreign women and worshiped their gods and the ones who divorced their wives to be faithful to their covenant with him.

The Book of Malachi comprises three chapters of prophecies exhorting the Jewish people to better their ways and portending future upheavals should they fail to do so.

It is the last of the series of 12 prophets known collectively as Trei Asar (“twelve”) or Minor Prophets. Some suggest that the prophecies ascribed to Chaggai, Zechariah, and Malachi were actually transmitted to the prophets.

Malachi means messenger of God. Malachi is the last book of the Old Testament covering events that occurred around B.C. when Israel was becoming disillusioned about the prospects of renewed freedom and glory for the nation. Malachi would have prophesied sometime during the time Nehemiah was away or during his second term as governor.

So, Malachi wrote the capstone prophecy of the Old Testament in which he delivered God’s message of judgment on Israel for their continuing sin and God’s promise that one day in the future, when the Jews would repent, Messiah would be revealed and God’s covenant promises would be fulfilled.

The name Malachi means my messenger and may be more of a title than a person’s name. His name only appears this once but his words are quoted 15 times in the New Testament including once by Jesus (Matthew ).
